Courtesy visit by the Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Burkina Faso to the Executive Director of the Volta Basin Authority

On Monday 20 April 2026, from 11.00 am, the Executive Director of the Volta Basin Authority (VBA), Mr DESSOUASSI Y. Robert, received a courtesy visit from His Excellency the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana to Burkina Faso, accompanied by his Minister Plenipotentiary/Consul, his Political Adviser and his interpreter.

His Excellency Mr Kenneth Akibate emphasised that his visit forms part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between his country, Ghana, and the Volta Basin Authority, of which Ghana was one of the six founding members in 2007.

Following the customary formalities, the Executive Director, in a brief address, expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the Ambassador and his delegation, as well as to the Ghanaian authorities, for this gesture of consideration towards the Volta Basin Authority.

After congratulating His Excellency Mr Kenneth Akibate on his appointment as Head of the Diplomatic Mission of the Republic of Ghana in Burkina Faso, effective 30 November 2025, he assured him that the VBA Executive Board stood ready to work closely with his institution.

He then gave him a brief overview of the Volta Basin and the VBA (Convention, statutes, mandates, institutional structure, etc.), as well as the major activities currently underway. Finally, the Executive Director sought His Excellency’s support and guidance for the VBA’s Executive Board in the implementation of its basin development activities.

In response to the Director’s remarks, His Excellency Mr Kenneth expressed his particular appreciation for the warm welcome he had received and reiterated his commitment to working closely with the Executive Board of the VBA to achieve the objectives set for our organisation.
