On Tuesday 25 March 2025, IWMI East Africa Director, Dr Abdulkarim H. Seid paid a courtesy call on Mr Robert Y. DESSAOUASSI, Executive Director of the Volta Basin Authority, in Ouagadougou,
IWMI East Africa Director took the opportunity to recall the role played by IWMI in the field of water resources research. He spoke of the role that VBA can play in this collaboration, and in particular in setting up ‘water accounting’ for the Volta Basin.
IWMI will continue to work with VBAon future projects, including the organisation of a forum on remote sensing and training courses for stakeholders from VBA member countries.
The Executive Director of the VBA did not miss the opportunity to thank IWMI for what it has already done for VBA and also to show the tools that VBA uses and that can be put in relation with the Water Accounting tool. MyDewetra is a powerful tool that enables VBA to make forecasts based on the impact of flooding and drought. Other tools are currently being developed, such as the Decision Support Tool and the Coordinated Infrastructure Management Tool.
For Deputy Executive Director Dr. Dibi MILLOGO, the forecast is having an effect on the population of the Volta Basin and this is a sign that the Volta Basin authorities are working to improve the living conditions of the population.
Before taking his leave, Dr Abdulkarim H. Seid said that his team would be working with VBA experts to pool our ideas and come up with projects.
