A regional workshop on strengthening African water information systems, organised as part of the DYNOBA project (Dynamisation des Appuis aux Organismes de Bassin Transfrontaliers Africains), was held from 4 to 6 November in Saly (Senegal), under the auspices of the President of the African Network of Basin Organisations (ANBO), Dr Florence Grace Adongo, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Organisation for the Development of the Senegal River/OMVS, Mr Niokhor Ndour.
Over three days, representatives from the seven African transboundary basin organisations benefiting from the DYNOBA project, such as the Niger Basin Authority (ABN), the Volta Basin Authority (VBA), the Organisation for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS), the Organisation for the Development of the Gambia River (OMVG), the International Commission for the Congo-Oubangui-Sangha Basin (CICOS), the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) have mobilised to strengthen cooperation around Water Information Systems (WIS) and pool their efforts to address challenges related to climate change, governance, technological innovation and adaptation to new environmental issues.

Organised within the framework of the RAOB (African Network of Basin Organisations), through the DYNOBA and Peer to Peer – P2P projects and under the leadership of its Permanent Technical Secretariat (OMVS), with the support of the International Office for Water (OiEau) and funding from the AFD, this workshop made it possible to:
- share experiences on water information systems (WIS),
- harmonise tools and protocols between African basin organisations,
- adopt a roadmap for better interconnection between transboundary basin organisations.

In addition, particular emphasis was placed on the adoption by African basin organisations of innovative tools such as the common geomatics reference system, artificial intelligence and spatial hydrology to better develop resilience strategies in the face of new challenges.
