Preparatory regional dialogue of actors on the challenges, priorities and perspectives of the 9th World Water Forum for West Africa

As a prelude to the World Water Forum to be held from March 22 to 27, 2022 in Senegal, the ECOWAS Commission and its regional partners are preparing West Africa for the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar with a preparatory regional stakeholder dialogue on challenges, priorities and prospects in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, 15 & 16 February 2022.

The Director of the Volta Basin Observatory of VBA, Doctor Rafatou FOFANA, hydrologist and expert in Gender & Development takes part in this meeting as a stakeholder.
As a reminder, In March 2022, participants from all walks of life, including political and economic decision-makers, multilateral institutions, academia, civil society and the private sector, will gather in Dakar, Senegal, for the 9th World Forum of the ‘water.
Building on previous World Water Forums, the 9th Forum will seek, through an innovative framework, to identify, promote and implement concrete responses and actions for water and sanitation in an integrated manner.
This will be the first time that the World Water Forum, the largest international water-related event, will be held in sub-Saharan Africa.

The “Dakar 2022” Forum will focus on four priorities, namely:
1. water and sanitation security
2. water for rural development
3. cooperation
4. “Tools and Means” including the crucial questions of financing, governance, knowledge management and innovations; four axes which constitute priorities for Africa, but also for the world as a whole.
